Leaders Help Leaders

Everyone has there good and bad moments. As a leader, one may feel like their every move is being analyzed and criticized. Leaders have to have a particular confidence and sometimes that confidence is what people respect rather than certain actions or words. When leaders work together, they may not agree on certain issues but leadership skills can be taught between leaders to help one develop into a well rounded leader. Just as an athlete. An athlete has to work out, attend practice, and remain sportsmanlike when contributing to the team. For a leader to grow, other leaders should be inspiring. Leaders can also learn from bad leadership. However, one of my great friends, a leader herself on campus and in my fraternity, has taught me that sometimes your best will be 15% one day and 100% another day, as long as you try your best you should not get down on yourself. Part of being a leader is realizing that you always need the help and support of other leaders around you.

Lecture: 40 Years of Politics in Virginia and the U.S.- 10/14/2011

This lecture session was a very inspirational experience. The lecture consisted of Randolph-Macon alumni who are leaders today in their jobs and were once leaders at Randolph-Macon College. The location of this lecture took place at Randolph-Macon College in Fox Hall, Room 107. The lecture included the following:

Intro.-R-MC is a foundation to a career and the student develops ambition in whatever he is studying. Basically, R-MC is a gateway.
Robert Rankin:Political Trends
Robert Lambeth: How R-MC prepares the student- R-MC grads are successful, there is no need to stress about future job possibilities, the student will find his way into what he is passionate about.

Tips for success:

1.Know how to speak/interact with others(only good things come out of this)
2.Writing skills are essential
3.Analytical thinking (deductive reasoning)
4.Leadership
5.Teamwork
6.Know how to dress

This experience was an eye-opener for me because it reassured me that a liberal arts college education is a great foundation for successful careers, such as the careers of the alumni. Also, the alumni were helpful in answering questions because they have already gone through the process of figuring out their job possibilities and now have dignified, stable careers. As a student, I have questioned, what is next after college and what I decided to do is review my short term goals and determine my long term goals. I have a sense of what I want my long term goals to be now, after viewing the paths of these alumni who share the same passions as me. Overall, this lecture was exactly what I needed to experience and it has motivated me to work harder.

What this blog is about...

This blog is about the importance of growing as a leader during college life. Leadership holds one accountable for his actions; being placed in leadership positions, one has to serve as a role model and be accepting of criticism. However, leadership can be expressed in the simplest actions. One can show leadership by offering words of encouragement to a friend. I am in favor of holding positions within clubs and organizations; however, one should not engulf in the leadership positions they hold; it only hurts the greater good of the followers. Leadership involves following a set of standards for oneself and the people one leads; it can be found by helping people and never get noticed; however, a greater good comes out of this, either for the community, the school, or even bettering oneself.
